Some might call me over the hill, others may refer to me as middle aged, but I don’t care about labels so commonly used to refer to women over fifty. Unfortunately along with these labels comes a long list of how we should act, dress, etc. and I refuse to let others define me. I prefer to define myself with words like fierce and fearless and when it comes to my outside appearance, flirty is my favorite adjective. Flirty at 65? You bet, especially when it comes to dressing for a special occasion like Valentine’s Day. Don’t you agree?
I don’t always celebrate with a big night out. Sometimes I like to stay in and make a nice dinner and relax. I’ve put together two looks for Valentine’s Day — one is a hot, red dress for going out and the other is a more relaxed look, jeans and a top, which is perfect for staying in or going out casual. Although red is my favorite color I usually dress in neutral tones like nude, grey and black but decided to give a red dress a try when I found this one at a discount retailer for $35 and just couldn’t pass it up.
Make sure that what you choose to wear reflects your personality. It’s important to be true to you. It’s one of the little luxuries that growing older affords us — the right to be who we choose to be. Never let anyone dictate your style.
