One of the best fitness tips I can give a woman over fifty is work your calves. Many women are confused as to why targeting this body part is important. The reason is working your calves is super easy and yields amazing results. When you do leg exercises and cardio your calves are definitely engaged and working, but if you add these simple moves you will see your lower legs go from plain to super sexy. Strengthening your ankles is a side effect of doing these calf moves and strong ankles are very important as we age.
The move is very easy. Basically you are just raising and lowering your heels as you go up on the balls of your feet. There are three positions for your feet: toes pointed forward, toes pointed out (external rotation) and toes pointed in (internal rotation). Make sure to squeeze from your toes through your calves to get the maximum muscle contraction and hold in the “up” position for a second. Do 12 – 20 reps in each position, moving seamlessly from one position to the next. I would do this series of raises 3 – 4 times throughout the day. Do a set while you’re putting on makeup, cooking dinner, or waiting on line in a store. These are quick, easy and effective.
