I decided to start this website because I was tired of seeing and hearing the same old dialogue about middle aged women, regardless of what number you put on that term. You would think we couldn’t hear what was being said. Does the population at large think we are just invisible? In fact, for the most part, they do and we are. But who is to blame? Or better yet, what can we do to change this notion, both within society but more importantly, within ourselves? I believe to make this change we must first stop thinking of ourselves as over the hill, tired old bags and begin reinventing ourselves! I’m not suggesting that we totally turn our lives around; what I am suggesting is that we take a look at our behaviors and find areas where we can comfortably make some changes that will have a huge impact on how we feel about ourselves.
Have you ever noticed that in most magazines when they have a story either on the makeup or fashion trend of the moment that they often show women how to tailor that look for their appropriate age if they’re in their 20s, their 30s, their 40s, and sometimes, even their 50s? But would you ever see a new nail trend or new boot look shown on a woman who is 60? To be honest there has been some sporadic media coverage about us older women but it’s more in the nature of us “trending” like some cute kitten video on YouTube. And that includes most publications aimed at “mature” women. Well, I’m here to dispel the myth that we can’t look and feel great. I am 69 and proud to have made it this far and I want to share with women what they can do to look and feel their best.
I was almost 23 when my beautiful 53 year old mother died of a massive heart attack due primarily to her obesity and diabetes. I was determined not to let that happen to me. I had been a fat child who starved off most of the weight by the time I was 20 and have made it my personal life mission to maintain good health. (I would NEVER recommend that approach to weight loss now.) I ran my own businesses, had kids, and sometimes had my ups and downs with my dress size but I always ultimately returned to a fit and healthy body and always used realistic approaches to maintain good health. And now I want to share my lifestyle with you and I plan to be the straight talking woman that I’m known to be. I do not want to get scientific or make this harder (and yes, it can be hard) than it already is.
So if you have decided to leave that forgotten, fat, frumpy woman behind and create a new more youthful, healthier, sexy self, just followPhyllis!
I love to feel and look good and I’m not ashamed to say so.
